Haydn's Creation from Benson Choral Society @ Dorchester Abbey

Haydn’s Creation from Benson Choral Society

Joseph Haydn is justly renowned for his symphonies and quartets but the same is true of his choral legacy, particularly the last 6 masses of his mature years, and this too was the time of his Creation of 1798. He was inspired to write it after visiting London in 1791 and hearing Messiah at a Handel festival in Westminster Abbey.

The narrative of the story is largely told by three angels for which you need soloists of the highest calibre which we have in Katie Trethewey, soprano, Nathan Vale, tenor and James Oldfield, baritone. There are plenty of dramatic choruses to add variety and colour.

The chorus are in fine form and we are joined by West Forest Sinfonia, guest conducted by our good friend Richard Laing. So this all happens on Saturday 15 June at 7.30pm in Dorchester Abbey. Tickets are £20 (reserved) or £17 (ureserved) and are available online at www.bensonchoralsociety.org.uk. You can book your seats at the same time. Don’t delay, first come, first served! How better to spend a long summer’s evening?
