Our Current Appeal
The Abbey Guest House
The Abbey Guest House is at the centre of our visitor welcome. It houses an accredited Museum, our famous Abbey Tea Rooms, and provides an upstairs venue for events and classes. Behind the Guest House are the essential visitor toilets, used for all our visitors and for large Abbey events.
The Guest House is in serious need of refurbishment. The ceiling in the Museum is unstable, plaster on the gable end has already needed emergency repairs, the basic toilets are unacceptable and disabled access is difficult.
Our Abbey also has more vistors than ever and so needs better facilities:
- a greater number of more modern toilets
- a larger tea room space with a modern kitchen
- office space for our team of support staff
- another room which could be used as a creche and teaching area for our education mission.
We are currently working on draft proposals with the Abbey architects and hope to have a costed proposal with provisional approval sometime in 2020, when this appeal will formally be launched.
